The Shelter Staff and Residents are proud to be located in a community as wonderful as London-Laurel County, Kentucky. Churches, community organizations and individuals alike are active in supporting our ministry; and surprisingly, our Shelter is also able to provide many support services to other organizations beyond the walls of our own ministry.

Some of the ways our community are involved at Christian Shelter are:

  • Five regularly-scheduled services/Bible studies each week, provided by area churches who wish to minister to our residents;
  • Other churches come on a monthly basis for special events, singings, or to provide and serve meals as they are able;
  • The Corbin Wal-Mart store raised necessary funds and participated in the construction of the Shelter playground for children. They also procured a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation, which served to upgrade and outfit our dining room; and
  • The Shelter is blessed with 3 full-time volunteers, along with many other part-timers! Volunteers and those who give are without question the backbone of our mission.

Exciting as those who give are those opportunities when our Shelter, its residents, and our staff are also able to give back to the community at-large. For example:

  • The Shelter regularly hosts intern/practicum students from several local colleges and universities;
  • Our staff is active in the local Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce, and participate as often as possible;
  • We are a member of the Tri-County Assistance Network;
  • Our Shelter, in association with London Downtown, developed a community garden during the summer of 2009 on a vacant lot in downtown London, previously described as an “eye sore”;
  • Any donations of food, clothing or furniture that the Shelter cannot immediately use are passed on to other organizations or individuals that serve the needy; and
  • Shelter Residents often volunteer to assist with yard work, etc., for individuals and businesses in our community.
